Dave Hughes Writes from Cape Town:-

Thanks for adding me to the Beira mail. We probbaly spent more time than most in Beira as my Dad did quite a lot of work for the Brewery and others in that fine town. Or it was then !!
The year I left school four others and myself cycled to Beira then took a ferry to Sofala, then a Dhow down the cost to LM. Then back on a small vessel that delivered oil and other such stuff to all the little "ports" on the coast. Eventually back to Sofala. While preparing our bikes to cycle back there was an empty goods train in the harbour getting ready to head for Umtali and beyond. So we hitched a ride home !! I had one of the fancier bikes, a Rudge with a three speed !!
